Overview
Globetech was engaged by McMahon Services to design the 3000-tonne storage capacity expansion project.
Scope
Globetech was responsible for delivering the complete electrical and automation system to enable full unmanned operation of the silo. This included the design and manufacture of a Form 3b outdoor switchboard, PLC/SCADA system, variable voltage variable frequency (VVVF) drive systems, lighting design, and associated construction services.
Project Challenges
The project presented several challenges, including restricted access to equipment and tight project timeframes. Changes to the build methodology further limited access and impacted the efficiency of installation works. In addition, adverse weather conditions affected the erection of structures, creating flow-on scheduling impacts.
How We Managed This
Access issues were particularly challenging given the site’s status as an active facility with significant heavy vehicle traffic constraints. Globetech worked closely with stakeholders to coordinate safe work areas and participated in multiple shutdown coordination workshops to minimise disruptions. Resource levels were continually adjusted to align with access availability and project progress.
Value Adding
Globetech with Globetech Construction successfully combined their in-house design, manufacturing, and construction expertise to deliver a complex, integrated solution through a single point of accountability. This approach ensured seamless execution from design to commissioning. A high level of communication, collaboration, and flexibility throughout the project supported a strong team approach, enabling efficient scheduling and smooth commissioning outcomes.
Zero Harm
The project safety record was excellent with no LTI or MTI’s recorded.
