Overview
Globetech Construction was engaged by BHPB to refurbish the existing plough control system for the facility.
Scope
Globetech Construction provided full construction services for the project. The scope included refurbishing existing equipment and installing new equipment on ship loaders, supplying and installing new power supplies to the assets, limited supply and installation of new communication network equipment, supply and installation of electrical panels, field cabling, racking, and providing commissioning assistance to ensure compliance with the Quality Management System.
Project Challenges
The project faced several challenges, including the variable condition of the equipment requiring refurbishment and environmental issues on site. Exposure to dust, saltwater mist, and general weather conditions created difficulties, as the location is exposed from all directions.
How We Managed This
Environmental challenges were managed through careful planning and site preparation. Pre-start meetings were used to discuss potential exposure issues, and where possible, barricades and temporary covers were installed to mitigate the effects. Open electrical equipment was closed promptly after work was completed to minimise exposure to salt mist and other elements.
Value Adding
Globetech Construction leveraged its manufacturing expertise to assist with refurbishment work, ensuring the right skills were available to execute the project efficiently. By utilising workshop manufacturing practices and specialised tooling, the team delivered high-quality outcomes while maintaining safety and operational standards.
Zero Harm
The project safety record was excellent with no LTI or MTI’s recorded.
