Overview
Globetech was engaged by BlueScope Steel to design and manufacture the upgrade to the No. 1 and No. 2 Stand Converter Drive Systems.
Scope
Globetech worked in conjunction with BlueScope Steel to determine the requirements for the new drive systems. Once defined, Globetech was responsible for the design and manufacture of the drive and control systems, as well as the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and final commissioning.
Project Challenges
The project presented several challenges, primarily around defining the functional requirements and ensuring consideration of all potential operating scenarios.
How We Managed This
The functionality requirements were developed and finalised through a series of client engagement workshops. This collaborative process was essential, as the historical operational data required to inform the design was not documented. Through these workshops, the necessary information was extracted and incorporated, resulting in a robust, high-availability system design.
Value Adding
Globetech was able to expedite the manufacturing phase of the project, reducing overall delivery time and enabling the system to be commissioned ahead of schedule. Several innovative design solutions were implemented, achieving cost savings while enhancing operational functionality through integrated SCADA and HMI systems.
Zero Harm
The project safety record was excellent with no LTI or MTI’s recorded.
